Solstice Celebration
Aaahhhh winter you’re finally here. In the Northern Hemisphere it’s so amazing that we get to celebrate it twice a year. On December 21st, at 8:59 MST, the winter solstice occurs. This year we get just 8 hours and 46 minutes of daylight during the winter solstice. While that may sound a little depressing, the good news is that the days start to lengthen after that point. By mid-June, Josh, I, and all you other dawn patrolling fools will be enjoying the 3 weeks of running (without headlamps) in the wee hours of daylight at 445 am. Yep, it’s just around the corner, er, well, half a year away. Anyhoo, in honor of the shortest day of the year and the holiday season, we’re going to do a little segment hunting and gold medal seeking. I’ve been wanting to do a segment hunt/PR challenge for a while. We’ve all put in a bunch of work this year and we might as well send off this year in style.
The Solstice Celebration challenge must take place on December 21st. This challenge is to get a gold medal or a crown on a Strava segment OR your official Strava personal best. This challenge must take place on December 21st. Strava will give you a gold medal when you get your fastest time on a segment or a designated distance, such as a 5k. In order to get a gold medal, you will have had to run or ride the segment or distance at least one other time. Once you complete the challenge, tag Josh and I in the comment section of your run or ride. As always, have fun, be safe, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
