Year of the Rabbit Celebration

Growing up, every year, my parents would let me stay up on New Years Eve to watch the ball slowly descend on the Big Apple and ring in the new year. As I got older, I couldn’t wait to celebrate New Years the way I’d seen it on TV. It was vibrant, grandiose, and damn it just looked like a blast. As time went on I’d had my fair share of fun New Years Eve’s, but almost every year I’d regret that I hadn’t done a little more. Went a little bigger. Made a bigger moment. “There’s always next year” I’d say, and on into the new year I’d go. By the time “next year” became “this year” the feeling wasn’t quite as sharp and the regret of missed opportunity was buried with time. This year is different. This year we all get a do-over. A reset. This year we’re not only celebrating the Gregorian New Year (Jan 1, 2023), but we’re celebrating the Lunar New Year as well (Jan 22, 2023). This is our chance to go bigger. Bolder. Longer. Stronger. A chance to recreate the magic before time dulls the moment. Oooor it could just be punishment for day one of the challenge. No good deed goes unpunished after all.

This month’s challenge takes place on Jan 22, 2023. The challenge is to improve on your day 1 run or ride. You’ll need to multiply your day 1 distance by 2.2 and complete your activity. While we like it when people go big on their activities, we’re not complete jerks so we’re capping your total mileage at 22 miles. So, if you ran 10 miles or more on Day 1, you will only need to do 22 miles (66 bike miles). Of course, if you’d like to do more, by all means go for it. For those of you that did the minimum on Day 1, I say, “Well played”. Your minimum distance will be 2.2 run miles (6.6 bike miles) to qualify you for the challenge, but feel free to plod/pedal as far as you’d like. If you have any questions please reach out. Once you’ve completed the activity, sign up for the event and tag @josh pierce and @ryan mellem. If you don’t tag us, there is a high probability we won’t see it. One winner who completes the monthly challenge will be selected at random for our monthly prize.

The monthly challenges are optional additions to the overall challenge so if you’re not ready for a big jump in distance that’s ok. We’ll have 11 more coming your way. As always, be safe, have fun, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing!
