June 2fer
Leap first. It’s always kind of been a motto of mine. The adventure of the unknown is where the fun lies. That’s why when I opened my email in late July 2019 to a message thanking me for signing up for the 2019 Hootenanny 100k race (held in October) I said yes. I had run a few flat marathons and struggled through a 50k mountain race or two, but running long distances is not what I’m built for. While some of you are speedboats. I’m more like a tugboat. I don’t go very fast and I’m generally not very attractive as far as boats go. Naturally, I was curious, as you may be curious as well, how I became signed up for a race that I was neither prepared for nor ever had intentions of doing. So, when I called Josh to tell him he’s an idiot for paying for a race that I’m not doing, that little voice in my head said “leap first” and what came out of my mouth was “You’re an asshole. We better get some long runs in!” As predicted, it was not a stellar performance from me. As I crossed the finish line a few hours after a bunch of the Plod and Pedal crew, I not so jokingly told Pierce I was going to kick him in the balls. To which the gang got a good laugh and Pierce got the best twofer he’s ever gotten. He paid one registration to kick my ass and to make me suffer (I know, it’s a weird friendship). Who can blame him though? Who doesn’t like a great deal?
Here is our deal for you: This June your challenge is to run/ride overnight. The activity must be one continual activity and you must at least get the minimum BEFORE midnight and at least the minimum AFTER midnight to qualify for this challenge. Once you have COMPLETED the challenge, sign up for the event and don’t forget to tag @Josh Pierce and @Ryan Mellem in the comment section of your run. The winner will be drawn at random for the monthly prize. Reach out if you have any questions. As always, have fun, be safe, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
