Mixing it up
Somewhere in my early 30's, CrossFit became a cult following for damn near every person I knew. I had lifted weights pretty religiously up until the time I had my first kid in 2009. Then the wheels came of the lifting cart. Slowly, but surely the fruits of my labor started disappearing. Research shows that after the age of 30, you start to lose muscle mass at a rate of about 3-8% per decade and the rate increases once you hit 60. Father time can be a cruel bastard. Speaking of bastards, Josh, is not a big fan of throwing weights around (and that's why he wears child shirts). The guy gleefully runs me into the ground on a daily basis, so I'm flexing my challenge writing muscle to give him a bit of misery.
This month we're going to balance out our upper and lower half. This months challenge is to run/bike 5 miles (15 miles on bike). Each mile (3 on bike), on the mile, you have to do a body weight activity. Can you save them all for the end or do them all at the beginning? Nope. The breakdown is below.
Mile 0: 30 push-ups
Mile 1: 30 jumping split squats (15 per leg)
Mile 2: 1 minute plank
Mile 3: 30 push-ups
Mile 4: 50 air squats
Mile 5: 30 push-ups or 10 pull-ups or 1 minute plank
Once again, tag Josh Pierce and Ryan Mellem in the comment section of your activity and sign up for the monthly challenge. We will draw one winner for the monthly prize. As always, have fun, be safe, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
