Presidents’ Day 8K

It was Presidents’ Day. Slightly over a week earlier the golden haired goddess of the 4th grade, Danielle Golden, had chosen me…ME! All four feet, 52 lbs of boy to be her Valentine. Today, we’d be cutting out the busts of presidents with our partner. My partner was Danielle. After splashing on some of dad’s aftershave, I strode into Mrs. Campbell’s classroom with the swagger of Mick Jagger and the confidence of Tom Brady. There she was, hair shimmering in the sunlight. Laughing. Smiling. Flirting. With Jeremiah Childree. That Bastard! I had memorized facts about G.W. to woo her…to impress her…only to be heart broken, smelling like a 40 year old playboy, and standing in the doorway of a rundown elementary school. But alas, all has not been lost. I still remember the facts to this day and out of the ashes of my romantic past springs the phoenix of useless information that occupies space in my brain. Which, now I share with you.

Although the US technically became a country in 1776, we didn’t have our first president, George Washington, until 1789. Since then we’ve had 45 other presidents. Overall our presidents average a rule of 5 years. So this month’s challenge is to honor the leaders of this truly amazing country with a Presidental 5 miler (8k) or 15 miler (24k) for you bikers. Presidents’ Day is Monday Feb 21 this year. To be eligible for this challenge, you must run 5 miles or bike 15 miles on Presidents’ Day. At least one run mile must be under 15 minutes. Once you complete your activity, sign up for the challenge and don’t forget to tag @joshpierce and @ryanmellem in your activity. We will pick one random winner from the finishers of this February challenge. As always, have fun, be safe, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
