Twelve 5k's of Christmas
When I was 12 years old, I ran my first 5k in Havre, Montana. It was mid-December on those wind swept plains of the hi-line and the temperature was a balmy -12 without the wind. Oooohhhh you can be damn certain that there was wind, but it was the 80's...and it was Havre so things don't get canceled "for safety reasons". Hopping out of the car, Mom, cigarette pinched between her fingers, points to the seat I've just vacated and lovingly says "take your hat, stupid. It's cold outside." At 12 years old I was too cool for a beanie, so off I ran into the night air with my sweet 80's bowl cut tucked up nicely under my black and white checkerboard Van's baseball cap. As Dave, the local outdoor jack of all trades, fired the gun (It may have been a real gun...it was the 80's afterall) to start the race, the wind gently lapped at the back of my neon pink, purple, and yellow sweatsuit (Seriously, all 4'3" of me was stunning). After about mile of balls to the wall running, I made the turn in the route that looped past the college and ran straight into that 30 mph gentle breeze. I crossed the finish line with snot and tears frozen to my face and a set of ears that burned like the sun while the 12 days of Christmas boomed out of Dave's bitchin' ghetto blaster. It took me 12 more years before running another 5k.
For this months challenge you get to run at least a 5k (or bike 15k) a day starting on Dec 13th and ending on Decemeber 24th. You have to run/bike at least that distance everyday for those 12 days. If you run/bike in an ugly sweater on Day 12 you get a bonus entry (Picture required of course). We will draw one winner for the monthly prize. Once you’ve completed the activity, sign up for the event and tag @joshpierce and @ryanmellem in the comments. As always, have fun, be safe and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
