Tax Season

Sometimes timing is everything. While we try to be apolitical in this group it is hard to not notice the events occurring in the world. Today, the Trump administration imposed sweeping tariffs across the globe. As a result the US stock markets tumbled with the Dow, Nasdaq, and S&P taking about a 3.5% loss on average. If you have a stock portfolio that doesn't look great right now. While I, personally, don't like to add insult to injury, Mr. Plod and Pedal, Josh Pierce says it is tax season and payment for all of your hard work is required.

It’s time to pay your Plod and Pedal Taxes. This month’s challenge is to run or bike 3.5% of your combined running + biking miles (in running equivalents) as of April 15th. This challenge will test your 5th grade math skills. You will need to calculate your running equivalent miles and add them to your actual running miles. To calculate your running equivalent miles you need to divide your bike miles by 3. So, if you've biked 300 miles this year you have 100 running equivalent miles. Add that number to your actual running miles and then multiply it all by 0.035 to get your tax amount. Once you've figured out your tax amount you have to complete your "payment" in ONE activity (yep ONE activity. To you overachievers...You’re Welcome).

Unlike real taxes, it doesn’t have to be done on April 15th and there are no extensions nor penalties for not doing them. But the shame of not doing them lasts a whole year. You have from April 15th through April 27th, 2025 to complete this challenge.

Once you have COMPLETED the challenge tag @Josh Pierce and @Ryan Mellem in the comment section of your run or bike. The winner will be drawn at random for the monthly prize. Reach out if you have any questions. As always, have fun, be safe, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
