Extension Granted
Before landing a three year long stint in the Idaho State hoosegow, my buddies grandfather used to say, "Ain't no %#^&%$! way the tax man's gettin' his hands on my hard earned money!" The canary sang a different tune once free from his steely cage, but he did his damnedest to fight his crazy battle. While that old salty sailor learned the error of his ways, he'd thumb his nose at "The Man" anytime he could. When tax day rolled around for the rest of us, granddad would file an extension delaying payment so "those bastards couldn't use it as long." Papa Jack was an interesting character. In 2004, that old surly SOB drew his last breath shortly after filing his final tax extension. The theme of captain Jack's funeral was death and taxes. As the saying goes, those are two things you can be certain of in life. Since you're reading this we can assume that you're not dead and it gives us an opportunity inform you that we filed an extension for you in April and now your taxes are due.
It’s time to pay your Plod and Pedal Taxes. This month’s challenge is to run or bike 1.25% of your highest discipline total mileage as of October 15th. You only have to use your highest mileage discipline (running or biking) for the calculation and this challenge has to be done in ONE activity (yep ONE activity. To you overachievers...You’re Welcome).
For instance: if you’ve ran 1000 miles and biked 2000 miles (667 running miles equivalent) by October 15th, you have to RUN 1.25% of your running miles (i.e. 1000 x 0.0125 = 12.5 miles).
If you’ve ran 1000 miles, but biked 6000 miles (2000 running equivalents) by October 15th, you have to BIKE 1.25% of your biking miles (i.e 6000 x 0.0125 = 75 miles).
Unlike real taxes with an extension, it doesn’t have to be done on October 15th and there are no penalties for not doing them. But the shame of not doing them lasts a lifetime. You have from October 15th through the end of October 2024 to complete this challenge.
Once you have COMPLETED the challenge, sign up for the event and don’t forget to tag @Josh Pierce and @Ryan Mellem in the comment section of your run. The winner will be drawn at random for the monthly prize. Reach out if you have any questions. As always, have fun, be safe, and anything worth doing is worth overdoing.
